Peter Costello's attack on
the Greens (Herald Sun 23/9) is clear evidence that he is really is worried
about seeing the Green's David Risstrom elected as a Victorian Senator. However, Peter Costello misrepresents Greens
policy on inheritance tax by failing mention that it will only apply to estates
with a total value above $2 million. If this is deliberate, then he is
deceiving the Australian public - dirty politics like this just won't
wash. If it is a mistake then he is
incompetent as our Treasurer.
Costello has no excuse for
his "mistake" as the Greens are the only party that has their
policies on their website for all to see.
Those who take the trouble to view them find they are actually very
sensible and reasonable.
Then there is his hypocrisy.
If both Peter Costello and John Howard are so concerned about the Greens
policies why are they directing their preferences to the Greens in seats like
Melbourne where Greens candidate Gemma Pinnell may win? Liberal preferences will also help elect
David Risstrom.
The Greens are looking
forward to a future with a better and more caring society, real sustainability,
and better care for the environment.
This is in direct contrast with Costello and the Coalition who are
intent on shamelessly buying votes with tax cuts, running down public services
and Medicare, and spreading misinformation about the Greens.
This attack by Costello is
more about the Liberals concern that voters are seeing value in the Greens and
David Risstrom representing them in the Senate, where he will stand up for all
Australians, not just the elite. They have good cause to be worried as support
for the Greens increases.
