In and around NW Tasmania

Devonport is the major point of entry into Tasmania for visitors travelling from mainland Australia on our new twin ferries Spirit of Tasmania I and Spirit of Tasmania II which arrive from Melbourne daily in winter and twice daily during the summer months. Consequently it has become known as 'The Gateway to Tasmania'.

Devonport, Tasmania

The region is a popular tourist destination as is in close proximity to mountains, beaches, lakes and rainforrest. The climate is temperate and comfortable.

Devonport has a population of approximately 25,000 people in a semi-rural coastal setting. The main industries include, paper manufacture, fruit and vegatable farming and processing, wood products, metal fabrication and light industry.

Penguin, TasmaniaPenguin is just over 30 km west of Devonport. It derived its name from the many colonies of fairy penguins that inhabit the coastline of this area.

The town offers a number of attractions, such as the seasonal penguin parade and (twice a month) one of the largest craft markets in the state.

Boat Harbour Beach can be found further along the NW Coast beyond Wynyard. Boat Harbour, Tasmania It is a major tourist attraction in its own right. Boat Harbour Beach itself has pure white sand and turquoise water of Bass Straight and it has good surfing. At low tide, marine life pools form toward the eastern end of the beach.

The Hamlet of Boat Harbour is an unspoilt holiday destination, surrounded by fertile pastures. It is an excellent place to holiday.

Stanley, Tasmania

Stanley is a historic village nestled at the base of The Nut, a sheer-sided bluff on Circular Head. A walking track climbs to the summit of The Nut, or take the chairlift, with its spectacular views across Bass Strait beaches and over the town.

Stanley the town is a good base for exploring the forests and coastlines further west. See seals, penguins, sea birds and other wildlife in the area.

All of these places are within a couple of hours from where I live and just a small selection of places to visit within Tasmania, which is truly one of natures treasures.
