Waterwisp Golden Retrievers

Hello, thank you for visiting my page.

We are a small kennel in the beautiful island state of Tasmania. Our aim is to breed Golden Retrievers with lovely temperaments, which are equally at home in the show ring, obedience ring or as beloved members of their owner's family.

Golden Retrievers have given us a lot of interest and we have dabbled in obedience, conformation shows and have bred the occasional litter when we have wanted a puppy for ourselves.

We got our first Golden, Brynne, in 1992 and she made a pleasant change from the very dominant Rottweiler we were campaigning in Western Australia and later in Tasmania. Just her lovely temperament and eagerness to please was a most refreshing change. She is a joy to own and has taught me so much.

We called her Brynne from a character in a book my children had who was 'Brynne, Queen of the Woodland Fairies'. She certainly is Queen of all she surveys.

Brynne was born at the foot of Mount Roland at a beautiful rural hamlet called Barrington. She was one of a litter of 10 and the most dominant female, which was what I wanted. After living with a very dominant Rottweiler, the last thing I wanted was a submissive dog.

I did show Brynne in conformation and we did quite well gaining two thirds of her title. But she was not happy in the show ring and in the end we decided that showing was not for her preferring to concentrate on obedience.

In 1994 we decided to breed our first Golden litter, resulting in a litter of 7. From this litter we kept a female - Jem, my daughter Jo-anne's obedience dog. Jem was named by Jo-anne after a character in her favourite book "To Kill a Mocking Bird". Jem lives to retrieve, swim, dive, eat and roll in smellies . She had one litter of lovely puppies and made a most wonderful mother. She was entered sparingly in a few dog shows and did get a Best of Breed at the Devonport Agricultural Show, much to my delight. It is always wonderful when a dog one has bred, does well.

As a young dog Jem sustained an injury to her left eye in an awful accident and as time went on her eye got progressively worse. So we decided to retire her from a promising showing career.

In 1998 we decided to let Brynne have one last litter, her final fling so to speak. Previously at a dog show I had seen and admired a male Golden Retriever for his temperament and his looks. This dog was Aust. Ch. Pointgold Unbelievable (Alph) But I was saddened to hear that he and his owner were moving back to the mainland. I asked about the possibility of a mating and after some discussion, it was arranged that Alph would be flown into Tasmania to stay with his owners' friend for the mating to take place.

I will be forever grateful to Alph's owner and her friend as this mating resulted in a litter of 7 - 4 males, 3 females. Out of this litter I was lucky enough to get the love of my life, Oscar. Never was there a more devoted and loving dog, with a big, big heart. I could not imagine my life without him, my very own teddy bear.

Our lovely boy Oscar is at stud to approved bitches. To access Oscar's page, click on the Index button at the bottom of this page. Then follow the links to his page
