146 TOUGH-TALKING TUCKEY TELLS CARR: AXE YOUR NEW PARKS,

James Woodford, The Sydney Morning Herald, 4/12/98, p1

The new Federal Minister for Forestry and Conservation, Mr Wilson Tuckey, would oppose the declaration of any further World heritage Areas and has warned the NSW Government that its new national parks around
Eden are too big.

Mr Tuckey has also instructed his department to report to him on new 'whole-of-forest approach; to conservation, which would allow timber harvesting in all but 'icon' areas or places important for tourism.  'I don't think we are going to achieve what people want by just locking areas up because the trees there should not be cut down.'"
