Old-growth forests: no plans, no secret

Re: "Documents reveal secret logging plan" (The Age, 25/3), the government has no plans to "open up" additional old-growth forest to the timber industry. The vast majority of old growth forests (more than 87 per cent) in Victoria are in reserves that will not be harvested.

Other statements in the article claim to be quotes from the "leaked document". These statements were in fact made publicly by the government in a fact sheet on timber supply strategy in February.

The article also referred to the lifting of a ban on transporting sawlogs across FMA boundaries. No such ban has ever been in existence.
