Victorians would be able to vote for a small-l Liberal party with a focus on the environment for the first time at the coming election, the Liberals for Forests said yesterday. Launching the party's campaign, Senate candidate and founding chairman of Doctors for Native Forests, Suresh Pathy, said the party would be contesting its first federal election after running in the Western Australian poll earlier this year.

The party has two Senate candidates in Victoria - Dr Pathy and John Lugg - and is also contesting the seat of Corangamite by standing Dr Nigel Strauss, the president of Doctors for Native Forests. Dr Pathy said that in the WA election, Liberals for Forests had shown that protection of old growth forests was a major issue for Liberal voters and now it was Victoria's turn.  "This is what this state has missed out on," Dr Pathy said.
