Who will save our environment?

Back to Letters Back to Forest Letter Watch

On Sunday we visited the disaster scene that is the Ciancio logging coupe on Wait-a-while Road near Lavers Hill. We were horrified to see a fragile ecosystem treated with such contempt by the very department (the Department of Natural Resources and Environment) that is supposedly responsible for its conservation.

Along with clear-felling of trees and the massive soil disturbance that goes with it, evidence of damage to the rainforest abounded.

I encourage minister Garbutt to reflect on her role as a minister representing the interests of all Victorians, not to forget national and international tourists. What we really need is a Minister FOR Conservation.
